IBC Tote Buy-Back Program
Empty IBC totes sitting in your yard are cash waiting to be collected. We purchase used, dirty, and damaged intermediate bulk containers at competitive market rates — with free pickup available throughout the Midwest.
How the Buy-Back Program Works
Selling your used IBC totes takes less than a week from first contact to payment. Here is exactly what to expect.
Submit Your Inventory
Fill out the quote form above or call our Kansas City office directly. Tell us the approximate quantity, general condition (clean, dirty, damaged), and your location. We do not need serial numbers or photos to provide an initial estimate.
Receive a Same-Day Quote
Our pricing team reviews current market rates and contacts you with a firm offer — typically within 2 business hours. Quotes are valid for 5 business days and are completely obligation-free.
Schedule Pickup or Drop-Off
Accept the offer and choose how you want to proceed. We can dispatch a truck to your facility or provide drop-off instructions at our Kansas City processing center. Minimum pickups start at 5 units.
We Count and Verify
Upon arrival, our team conducts a physical count and condition assessment. Final payment is based on the verified count and condition grade. Any discrepancies from the initial estimate are discussed on the spot.
Payment Issued
Payment is issued by check, ACH transfer, or wire within 3 business days of container pickup. For regular vendors, we offer net-15 payment terms and a standing purchase agreement.
All Conditions Purchased — Full Grading Guide
We evaluate every tote against our four-tier grading system. No container is automatically rejected — even heavily damaged units have material recovery value. Use this guide to self-assess your inventory before contacting us.
Grade A — Clean
Premium RateTote previously used for food-grade or clean industrial liquids. Interior free of residue, exterior cosmetically sound. Valve and fittings intact and functional. No structural damage to cage or pallet. These totes go directly to our reconditioning line for immediate resale without major rework.
Common Examples
- Food syrups and concentrates
- Edible oils and fats
- Clean water service
- Cosmetic ingredients
- Pharmaceutical excipients
Pricing Note
Highest per-unit buy-back rate. Volume lots of 20+ units command additional premium pricing.
Grade B — Used / Dirty
Standard RateResidue present but container is structurally intact. Valve and fittings functional. Common for chemical or agricultural applications. Tote requires standard cleaning before reuse but is otherwise in serviceable condition. Interior may show staining or chemical odor.
Common Examples
- Agricultural chemicals and fertilizers
- Industrial cleaners and degreasers
- Paint and coatings
- Water treatment chemicals
- Petroleum products
Pricing Note
Strong buy-back rate after condition assessment. Rate may vary based on cleaning complexity for previous contents.
Grade C — Lightly Damaged
Reduced RateMinor cosmetic damage to cage or pallet, or small dents to the inner bottle that do not affect structural integrity or sealing performance. Valve may be missing or damaged. Still structurally sound and reclaimable after reconditioning and parts replacement.
Common Examples
- Bent cage uprights (correctable)
- Missing butterfly valve or dust cap
- Minor pallet board damage
- Surface rust on cage (no pitting)
- Small cosmetic dents to HDPE bottle
Pricing Note
Reduced rate reflects reconditioning cost. Missing fittings and minor repairs are factored into the offer.
Grade D — Heavily Damaged / End-of-Life
Material RateCracked HDPE bottle, severe cage distortion beyond correction, major pallet failure, or UN service life expiration. Not suitable for reuse as a container, but still has significant material recovery value. We purchase these for HDPE granulation, steel scrap, and pallet reclaim.
Common Examples
- Cracked or split HDPE bottle
- Severe cage collapse or weld failure
- Multiple broken pallet boards or blocks
- UN date code expired beyond rated life
- Chemical attack damage to bottle walls
Pricing Note
Priced based on recoverable material weight. HDPE and steel commodity prices determine the material rate offer.
What Determines Your Rate
IBC buy-back pricing is not a fixed number — it reflects real-world variables including commodity markets, container condition, and logistics. We are transparent about every factor that influences your quote.
Our goal is to offer you the best price the market can support so you have a reliable, repeat partner for disposing of used inventory profitably.
We share current HDPE resin and steel scrap pricing on request. If you want to understand exactly how your per-unit rate is calculated, just ask — our pricing team will walk through it.
Condition Grade
Clean food-grade totes command premium pricing. Heavily contaminated or damaged units are valued at material recovery rates. Accurate self-reporting speeds up the quote process.
Previous Contents
Food-safe and water-service totes are most valuable. Chemical totes require decontamination and are priced accordingly. Hazmat-designated containers need additional documentation.
Quantity
Volume discounts work in your favor — the more totes you sell, the higher the per-unit rate we can offer. Standing sell agreements with regular vendors earn fixed premium pricing.
Location & Accessibility
Totes at easily accessible dock-height facilities within our primary service radius command the best all-in pricing. Remote or difficult sites may include a logistics offset.
Market Conditions
HDPE resin and steel commodity prices fluctuate. Our buy-back rates reflect live market conditions. We share current commodity pricing on request so you understand exactly how your quote is built.
Weight-Based Pricing Examples
Material content is one of the key drivers of buy-back value, especially for Grade C and D containers. Here is how material weight translates to value across three common scenarios.
10 Grade A Clean Totes
Food-grade cleaning certificate issued to buyer. Totes enter reconditioning immediately.
25 Grade B Used/Dirty Totes
Cleaning cost factored into offer. SDS for previous contents required if chemical.
50 Grade D End-of-Life Totes
Priced on commodity value. Recycling manifest provided. Zero landfill disposition.
Pickup & Drop-Off Options
We work around your schedule and facility setup. Three logistics options are available — choose the one that fits your operation best.
Fleet Pickup — Your Facility
Our flatbed or drop-deck trucks come directly to your dock, warehouse, or yard. You load or we load — tell us which you prefer. We bring liftgate equipment when needed.
Scheduled Route Stops
If your facility falls on one of our regular Midwest pickup routes, we can add you as a recurring stop. Ideal for companies that accumulate 20+ totes per month.
Self-Haul Drop-Off
Bring your totes directly to our Kansas City processing facility at 965 N Walrond Ave. We have drive-in and forklift-assisted unloading bays open Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm. No appointment needed for under 20 units.
Minimum Quantity Requirements
Our fleet pickup service dispatches for a minimum of 5 IBC totes. This ensures cost-effective transport for both parties. For 4 or fewer units, drop-off is the better option.
Bring any quantity to our facility at 965 N Walrond Ave, Kansas City, MO. Single containers are accepted. Forklift unloading available. Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm.
Facilities generating 20+ totes per month can be added to our recurring Midwest route stops. Fixed per-unit pricing, scheduled pickups, no coordination overhead for your team.
Payment Methods & Terms
We offer multiple payment methods to accommodate different business needs. All payments are issued within 3 business days of container pickup unless other terms are agreed upon.
Check
Mailed or available for pickup at our Kansas City facility. Standard payment method for all transactions. Issued within 3 business days of container pickup.
ACH Transfer
Electronic bank transfer available for established vendors. Requires bank routing and account information on file. Same 3-business-day processing timeline.
Wire Transfer
Available for large transactions (typically $5,000+). Wire fees apply. Confirm details with our accounting team at time of quote acceptance.
Net-15 Terms
Available for established regular vendors with standing purchase agreements. Simplifies accounting for companies selling totes on a recurring basis.
Standing Purchase Agreement Terms
Vendors who regularly sell 20+ totes per month are eligible for a standing purchase agreement. Benefits include locked-in pricing tiers for 90-day periods, net-15 payment terms, priority scheduling on our Midwest route network, and a simplified paperwork process — one PO number covers all monthly transactions.
Contact our commercial team to discuss volume thresholds and start the agreement process. Most standing agreements are in place within 1–2 weeks of first contact.
Tax & Financial Benefits of Selling Used Containers
Beyond the direct cash payment, selling used IBC totes creates financial and accounting benefits that many companies overlook. Here is the full picture.
Avoid Disposal Costs
Instead of paying a waste hauler to remove IBC totes (which can cost $30–80 per unit depending on contents), you receive payment. The net swing per tote can be $100–200+.
Revenue vs. Capital Write-Down
Selling used equipment generates revenue rather than a pure write-down. Depending on your original asset basis, the proceeds may offset losses from depreciated container assets.
Reduced Waste Disposal Tax
Several states assess fees or taxes on industrial waste disposal by weight. Diverting containers to our buy-back program reduces your taxable waste tonnage.
ESG Reporting Value
Documenting container diversion from landfill has measurable value in supply chain sustainability scorecards, investor ESG disclosures, and customer sustainability questionnaires.
Note: We are not tax advisors and cannot provide tax guidance specific to your situation. Consult your CPA or tax counsel regarding the treatment of proceeds from used asset sales, waste disposal cost offsets, and ESG reporting value for your specific business and jurisdiction.
Environmental Reporting You Receive
Sending IBC totes to a general landfill is not just wasteful — it is increasingly expensive and scrutinized by regulators. A single IBC contains up to 60 pounds of HDPE plastic, 18 pounds of galvanized steel, and a full wooden pallet. Trashing that is trashing value.
When you sell to Kansas IBC Cycling, every component is tracked through our zero-landfill processing system. HDPE is granulated and sold to resin manufacturers. Steel cage components are processed at certified scrap facilities. Pallets are resold or chipped for biomass fuel.
You receive payment and a recycling manifest you can include in your ESG or sustainability reporting — turning a disposal problem into a documented environmental win. Every seller receives the following environmental documentation with their payment:
- Container count and condition grade summary
- Estimated HDPE weight diverted from landfill
- Estimated steel weight recovered
- Pallet count reclaimed or chipped
- CO₂ equivalent savings estimate
- Zero-landfill disposition confirmation
- Certification of compliance with applicable recycling standards
Large Fleet Liquidation Services
Facility closures, plant consolidations, or major equipment overhauls can generate hundreds of IBC totes that need to move quickly. Our large fleet liquidation service is built for exactly these situations.
On-Site Assessment
For lots of 50+ totes, we send a team to your facility to conduct a full condition inventory before issuing a quote. This gives you the most accurate pricing and eliminates post-pickup surprises.
Multi-Day Pickup Scheduling
Large liquidations often require multiple truck runs over 1–3 days. We coordinate with your facility operations to schedule loading windows that do not disrupt ongoing activities.
Mixed-Grade Lots
Most large lots contain a mix of Grade A through D containers. We price mixed lots by weighted average condition, giving you a single per-unit rate for the entire lot rather than separating and grading each container individually.
Priority Payment
Large liquidation payments (typically $10,000+) are processed as a priority. We offer wire transfer or ACH for fast payment on major transactions.
Site Cleanup Coordination
If the liquidation involves residual liquids or contaminated containers, we coordinate with licensed waste characterization services as part of the removal process. We handle the complexity so you can close the site cleanly.
Chemical Plant Sells 200 Totes During Facility Consolidation
A Wichita-area specialty chemical manufacturer consolidated two production facilities into one, leaving 200 IBC totes at the decommissioned site. The totes ranged from Grade A clean containers to Grade D heavily damaged units — a typical mixed lot from an active chemical plant.
We sent a two-person assessment team to the site on a Tuesday. By Thursday, we had a firm written offer for the full lot at a blended per-unit rate. The company accepted Friday morning. We dispatched three flatbed runs over the following week — 70 totes per run — completing the full pickup in 8 days from initial contact.
- 200 totes removed in under 10 days
- Payment issued by wire transfer within 48 hours of final pickup
- Full recycling manifests for 47 Grade D units directed to material recovery
- Site cleared and inspection-ready ahead of lease termination date

Get a Fleet QuoteCommon Questions About Selling
Do you accept totes that previously held hazardous materials?
We evaluate each hazmat tote on a case-by-case basis. UN-rated totes used for listed hazardous materials require a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and may need to be purged by a licensed facility before we can accept them. Contact us with your specific material and we will advise.
What is the minimum quantity for a pickup?
Our minimum scheduled pickup is 5 IBC totes. For quantities under 5 units, we encourage drop-off at our Kansas City facility at 965 N Walrond Ave, where there is no minimum.
How quickly can you schedule a pickup?
Most pickups within our primary service area (Greater Kansas City, central Kansas, western Missouri) are scheduled within 3–5 business days of accepting a quote. Urgent pickups for large lots can sometimes be expedited. Same-day dispatch may be available before 10am CT for Zone 1 locations.
Do I need to clean my totes before selling?
No. We accept totes in any condition, including dirty or with residual liquid. However, totes that have been rinsed are graded higher and command better pricing, so a basic rinse is worth the effort if feasible.
Will you still buy totes with missing valves or fittings?
Yes. Missing butterfly valves, dust caps, or vented bungs reduce the tote's grade but do not disqualify it. We stock replacement fittings and account for the cost in our offer.
Can I get a standing purchase agreement?
Absolutely. If your operation generates a regular stream of used IBC totes, a standing agreement locks in pricing terms and simplifies the logistics. Contact our commercial team to discuss volume thresholds and payment terms.
How do you determine the final price if it differs from the initial quote?
Our initial quote is based on your self-reported condition and quantity. Upon pickup, our team performs a physical count and condition assessment. If the actual condition matches the report, the quote stands. If there are discrepancies — more damage than reported, or fewer units — we discuss the revised offer on-site before loading begins. You are never committed until both parties agree.
Can I sell just the HDPE bottles without the cage and pallet?
Yes. We purchase HDPE bottles (without cage) for material recovery. The rate is based on weight rather than per-unit, since the bottle alone cannot be reconditioned for reuse. Contact us with the weight or count and we will provide a material rate quote.
What happens to the totes you buy?
Grade A and B totes go through our cleaning and reconditioning process and are resold for continued service. Grade C totes are repaired where possible or parted for components. Grade D totes go to our zero-landfill recycling process — HDPE is granulated, steel is scrapped, and pallets are resold or biomass-chipped. Nothing goes to a general landfill.
Do you provide documentation I can use for regulatory or sustainability reporting?
Yes. Every buy-back transaction comes with a weight ticket and a recycling manifest showing material disposition by type. This documentation confirms zero-landfill handling and can be used in EPA reporting, state waste minimization plans, and corporate ESG disclosures.
